|The colour version was too awful...|
My fourth child was born with allergies to milk, eggs, Brazil nuts, mustard and possibly every pollen that exists.
Which was pretty unfortunate because I do love to bake and that sort of means eggs.
The good bit is that her allergies have forced me to defy traditional baking rules and I can now rustle up a mean, egg-free, dairy-free (and gluten-free cake).
As my daughter grows up, the challenges presented by her allergies are not getting easier.
We passed her 3rd birthday - when she was supposed to grow out of them - and then we passed her 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th birthday.
Still not growing out of them.
(Stop press! September 2013, she was cleared of her egg allergy. Bring on the Vic Sponge!!)
I try to stay hopeful, but that doesn't help get allergy-friendly meals on the table. So I bake, I cook and on bad days we sit and moan about how rubbish it is.
She's brilliant and this blog is for her.
And for you, if you are coping with allergies or just cooking for them.
With the exception of a couple of recipes, everything here can be made gluten free and/or vegan.
Enjoy browsing and baking and when it all gets too much, just eat cake. It works for me.
